Wednesday 19th of June 2013

Our good vessel Beaumare being on her way to Tripoli received a request on June 17 just prior noon, to assist in the rescue of a rubber boat some 20 nautical miles off and to proceed to the distress position.

Around 14.30 PM that day, the people were rescued from the rubber boat and taken on-board the mv Beaumare. The total number of people saved is 77 amongst which children and pregnant women. The people were taken care off by the crew of our vessel by serving them drinks and food.

After various consultations, the vessel sailed for the Italian island Lampedusa which is close to the North African coast lines. In the vicinity of Lampedusa an Italian navy vessel came alongside and transferred the refugees form the Beaumare to their vessel. Consequently the rescue operation to an end.

We would like to thank everybody being involved in the rescue operation and offcourse a special thank goes out to the captain and crew of our Beaumare.
